SIUE Digitally-Reformats and Publishes 1957-2005 Undergraduate Catalogs
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Library and Information Services (LIS) has digitally-reformatted and published online the past issues of the University’s undergraduate catalogs dating from 1957-2005. The catalogs date from the first term of operation at the Alton Residence Center, formally the Shurtleff College, now home of the SIU School of Dental Medicine.
The catalogs have been scanned and published in the new LIS digital online publishing platform SPARK (Scholarly Publications and Repository of Knowledge). With the completion of this reformatting project, all SIUE undergraduate catalogs are now available online. The “born digital” catalogs created since 2006 are accessible at the Office of the Registrar website.
“These catalogs contain a wealth of historical information about the operation and instructional programs of the University, including the academic personnel and the curriculum,” said Stephen Kerber, University archivist and special collections librarian.
SPARK is an institutional repository that provides a central platform to publish, disseminate and preserve the research and scholarly activity generated by the University and the community. The open access publishing platform complies with the State of Illinois Open Access to Research Articles Act, signed into law in August 2013.
