SIUE’s Xfest and Arts & Issues Present Lucky Plush Productions
Is it possible to experience entertainment – or even drama – standing in a line? Come and see. Lucky Plush Productions will present its clever and imaginative production of “The Queue” at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Dunham Hall Theater.
The Chicago-based dance theater company mixes dance and theater by creating a fictional airport, where travelers stumble humorously, tragically and awkwardly into each other’s private lives as they wait in line at security checkpoints. The musical play has elements of slapstick, vaudeville, Busby Berkeley-style choreography and creaky one-act plays, and the plot of a 1746 nonsensical play about a family inheritance.
Lucky Plush delivers dance-theater work that is complex, layered, inviting and relatable. The company is praised for its complicated choreography, astonishing humor and perceptive commentary on contemporary culture. Julia Rhoads is the founder and director and Leslie Danzig is the collaborator of Lucky Plush Productions.
Grant Andree, director of Arts & Issues, said: “We’re excited to kick-off our sixth annual Xfest with this excellent dance theater company from Chicago.”
SIUE’s presentation of the "The Queue" is presented by Xfest and Arts & Issues. The production is sponsored by Commerce Bank and partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency. For more information on Xfest, visit SIUEXfest.
