Dunn Presents State of the System Address
Southern Illinois University President Randy Dunn presented his “State of the System” address Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 22 in the Morris University Center Meridian Ballroom. Approximately 600 SIUE campus community members attended.
Dunn titled his presentation as "Retrenchment as the New Normal for Public Higher Education." He advised that the issues to be dealt with in the near future include: state disinvestment, cost shifts particularly in regard to pensions and health insurance, priortization of public higher education and tuition ceilings.
Dunn gave a brief history of the SIU system and proposed that it is about to navigate a third era. During this upcoming time frame, he described issues that he knows are already on the table: revenue vs. cost centers, cost reducation in general, nimbleness in programs and operations, enrollment growth, philanthropy growth and increased shared services throughout the system.
Dunn continued to praise SIUE for its continued ability to successfully compete for new students in the highly competitive higher ed marketplace, and its fiscal planning and responsibility.
