SIUE Volleyball Earns AVCA Academic Award
The SIUE volleyball program is among the national recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 season.
The award honors NCAA Division I institutions that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). SIUE is among 146 NCAA Division I schools to earn the award.
The Cougars finished the 2014-15 academic year with a 3.361 cumulative grade point average.
“The team wanted to set a higher standard for themselves,” said SIUE Head Coach Leah Johnson. “In the fall, we had a good semester. In the spring, they took it to another level. For a full year, I was very pleased with their academic performance. At the end of the day, that’s what is going to translate to their future.”
