SIUE Summer Showbiz SHREK the Musical Opens July 10
Everyone’s favorite ogre will be onstage at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Dunham Hall Theater starring in SHREK the Musical! The hilarious fairy tale adventure opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 10.
SIUE Summer Showbiz brings all the beloved characters you know from the Oscar-winning film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.
“This show offers wonderful fun-filled entertainment for all ages,” said director Peter Cocuzza. “The costumes are colorful and recognizable and the songs are easy to follow and light in tone. It’s a show that would be great to take kids or grandkids to!”
SHREK the Musical features all new songs from Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig.
The musical explores many morals, according to music director Marc Schapman, including not judging others by appearances and the importance of companionship and self-acceptance.
“It is refreshing to be reminded of these ideas through the upbeat and high-intensity music of Shrek,” Schapman said. “While he may be the most feared character in the swamp, Shrek’s character possesses some of the most beautiful melodies and introspective lyrics.”
Other show times include:
- 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11
- 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18
- 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12 and July 19
Summer ticket prices are $15 and $12, with SIUE students receiving free admission with a valid I.D. To purchase, visit the SIUE Fine Arts Box Office located inside Katherine Dunham Hall on the SIUE campus or charge by phone by calling 618-650-2774.
