WSIE-FM Receives $5K Grant From Wells Fargo Advisors
WSIE-FM, the 50,000-watt NPR affiliate radio station broadcasting from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Wells Fargo Advisors (WFA) to support the station’s ongoing drive to upgrade its audio equipment.
The grant was awarded to The Jazz Station in recognition of its 44-year commitment to surrounding communities in providing daily access to news, public affairs programming, SIUE Cougar sports and modern American jazz.
“We’d like to thank Wells Fargo Advisors for their support,” said station General Manager Greg Conroy. “Although our on-air audio board is only some six years old, the main production room’s board and the voice-tracking board are each more than 25 years old. So, this award is a welcome addition to our continuing search for equipment funding.”
“As a public university station, we receive some funding from the state of Illinois but, as we’ve all heard, budget cuts to higher education will impact our operations,” Conroy said. “We’ve been conducting twice annual on-air fund drives, but we have to step up our game and continue to search for additional revenue streams.”
