SIUE Safe Zone Participates in St. Louis LGBT PrideFest
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Safe Zone participated in the St. Louis LGBT PrideFest for the third year running, with its largest group yet of faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends. The event was held June 26-28 at Soldiers Memorial in downtown St. Louis.
“Our participation in this event sends an important message about how involved, connected and caring SIUE is when it comes to the surrounding community,” said Rex Jackson, assistant director of residence life at SIUE. “Our booth and parade group serve to emphasize that our University is a safe and healthy place for all LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) individuals.”
More than 200,000 people attended the weekend celebration.
Safe Zone’s mission at SIUE is to develop a campus community of allies and provide support to LGBT students, faculty and staff with the ultimate goal of developing SIUE as a safe and welcoming place for LGBT people.
