Shakespeare’s Classic, The Comedy of Errors, Opens June 19 at SIUE Summer Showbiz
The Comedy of Errors, William Shakespeare’s classic and shortest of his comedies, opens June 19 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Metcalf Theater.
SIUE Summer Showbiz presents a trimmed down, all-ages farce that features sock puppets, mamba music and area actors, including local stand-up comedian Josh Funneman.
The Comedy of Errors will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, and Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27. The production can also be seen at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 21 and 28.
Tickets are $15 for adults (18 and older) and $12 for seniors (65 and older), non-SIUE students and children (under 18), as well as SIUE retirees, faculty, staff and alumni. Free admission is available to SIUE students with a valid school I.D. Group discounted tickets are also available.
For tickets or more information, call the Fine Arts box office at 618-650-2774 or toll free at 888-328-5168, extension 2774. For group discounts, call 618-650-5347.
Those arriving early to any of the productions will be able meet the cast for pre-show activities, which may include juggling lessons, puppet making and even getting a picture taken with “Shakespeare.”
“This production is a significant adaptation of Shakespeare’s original text,” said Director Chuck Harper. “It’s already one of Shakespeare’s shortest plays – and I made it even shorter.
“This adaptation focuses almost entirely on the story of the mystified twins and their bewildered families. Or as we like to call it – the funny parts!”
Free parking for the event is available in Lot F. For directions to campus, visit siue.edu/maps.
SIUE’s Summer Showbiz 2015 produces three plays and one Theater & Dance Summer Camp for youth from May-July. All productions are open to the community at large. For more information, visit
