SIU Trustees Approve Contracts for SIUE Campus Projects
The Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees at its regularly scheduled meeting on the Edwardsville campus Thursday, April 16, approved four contracts to complete repairs and renovations on the Edwardsville campus. It also approved the City of Edwardsville to build a fire station on the SIUE campus.
The projects include:
- Resurfacing Circle Drive on the SIUE campus
- Piping and insulation services as needed for the NCERC at SIUE
- Asbestos abatement and hazardous materials removal
The Circle Drive resurfacing contract was awarded to Chris Brothers Asphalt, Inc., of Lebanon, for $773,200. The road has become worn by heavy construction and daily commuter traffic. The improvements will include new pavement markings and replacing accessible curb ramps. Construction is scheduled for summer 2015 with funding from the facilities maintenance fee.
The open order contract for piping and insulation services at the NCERC was awarded to Amsco Mechanical, Inc., of Granite City. The contract has an estimated maximum annual value of $75,000 and possible duration of 10 years. The actual amount will be based on need. The work will be funded from the Pilot Scale Evaluation of Polysaccharide Fermentation grant.
The open-order contracts to abate and remove materials containing asbestos and other hazardous or regulated substances were granted to Great Western Abatement, Inc., of St. Robert, Mo., and Cenpro Services, Inc. of Madison. Each contract has an estimated annual value of $75,000. The first contract is effective July 1, 2015, and can be renewed for up to nine additional years. The amounts of the contracts to each vendor will be based on actual need and successful competitive pricing for individual orders for work over the contract period. Individual orders for work would be funded from various SIUE accounts and department budgets appropriate for the particular services required.
The City of Edwardsville has entered into a land lease agreement with the University to construct a fire station on the north end of SIUE’s campus near the water tower. The funding and construction of the project, and all future building improvements will be the sole responsibility of the City of Edwardsville. The fire station is designed to be one story and approximately 8,300 square feet.
