SIUE Alumni Association Distributes Nearly $30K in Scholarships
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Alumni Association annually awards scholarships totaling nearly $30,000. Fourteen students will take advantage of the association’s scholarship opportunities.
The Alumni Legacy Scholarship covers one-year of tuition and fees for an incoming freshman and a current SIUE student. Children, grandchildren, siblings and spouses of SIUE alumni are eligible for the scholarship.
The Alumni Association’s Board of Directors annually awards two legacy scholarships. This year’s recipients are Katie Terziovski, an elementary education major from Granite City, and Bethalto native Summer Standefer, an incoming freshman.
The Alumni Association board also awards five $500 Alumni Legacy Scholarships to SIUE alumni family members. The recipients are Melissa Weller, a theater major from Waterloo; Josie Wright, a psychology major from Collinsville; and incoming freshmen Gillian Lewis from Swansea, Jerseyville’s Ellen Snyders and East Alton native Ashlyn Cadle.
In honor of Dorothy and Raymond Stahlschmidt, their family established the Stahlschmidt Family Scholarship in fall 2009. The scholarship awards four $1,500 scholarships to current or incoming SIUE students. This year’s recipients are Ashley Tabb, a psychology major from Arthur, and incoming freshmen Brenna Champley from Taylorville, Carrollton’s Jonce Scheffel and Macie Christisen from Perryville, Mo.
The SIUE Alumni Association Board of Directors Scholarship is funded by the board’s members. They award three $1,000 scholarships to incoming freshmen, current undergraduate students, college transfers or non-traditional SIUE students who have shown exemplary leadership skills along with campus and community involvement. This year’s recipients are Luke Jansen, a business administration major from Effingham, and incoming freshmen Katelyn Kreutztrager from Roxana and East Alton’s Kari Westbrook.
“The SIUE Alumni Association received nearly 200 scholarship applications this year,” said Laura Caveny, assistant director of alumni affairs at SIUE. “Thanks to the generosity of our board members and the Stahlschmidt family, we were able to offer more scholarships this year than ever before.”
Current students may apply their scholarships to the current academic year, while incoming freshmen will utilize their funds for the 2015-16 academic year.
