SIUE’s Forbringer Shares Instructional Strategies in Math Webinar Series
Linda Forbringer, PhD, associate professor in the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, presented to educators around the world in mid-March on the topic of supporting students who struggle with mathematics. Launched on March 16, the Voyager Sopris Learning Spring 2015 webinar series shares proven strategies, as well as new research, to guide educators and administrators in transforming student achievement in literacy and math.
Forbringer’s presentation, which took place on March 19, was entitled, “Rtl in Math: Evidence-Based Interventions to Support Struggling Students.”
“Voyager Sopris is one of the premier providers of evidence-based instructional materials, with uses geared toward assisting struggling learners,” said Forbringer. “For many years, the focus of educational research has been on helping students who struggle with reading and language arts, while research into strategies to support students who struggle with mathematics has lagged behind.
“That is beginning to change, and researchers have now identified several instructional strategies that can help increase achievement outcomes in mathematics. It was exciting to share some of these strategies with such an engaged audience that is dedicated to student success.”
“The Voyager Sopris Learning webinar series allows educators nationwide the opportunity to interact directly with leading authors, educational consultants, and creators of outstanding programs and professional development,” said George Logue, president of Voyager Sopris Learning. “The multimedia format provides the ability for webinar participants to customize solutions for their particular schools or classrooms. With these complimentary professional development opportunities, teacher support is ongoing, comprehensive and flexible.”
Once the webinar series concludes on May 15, all presentations will be archived and available for public viewing, free of charge, at voyagersopriswebinars.com.
