Information and More Presented at SIUE’s First Water Conservation Fair

Participants learned helpful, interesting and pertinent information at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s first Water Conservation Fair on Wednesday, March 4.
The campus community had the opportunity to visit the booths of: Office of Sustainability, Sociology Club, Environmental Resources Training Center (ERTC), SIUE Fitness Center, Bike Share Program, Edwardsville Watershed, SIUE Natural Connections and Water in Jeopardy.
The Water in Jeopardy booth was one of the more popular tables at the fair. The game was created by Dr. Connie Frey Spurlock, SIUE sustainability fellow and associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice Studies.
“For the price of a six pack of soda, you can refill an eight-ounce glass of water how many times?” The answer: 15,000 times.
“I’m having fun learning about water conservation,” said Cinnamon Stewart, a senior majoring in mass communication and dance.
“I didn’t know we could rent bicycles on campus or have access to a Zipcar,” said Brandon Schmitt, a junior majoring in computer management and information systems, who transferred to SIUE last year.
The fair was also the start of the #siueonedrop contest.
“The contest encourages students to find creative ways to take a ‘selfie’ at the SIUE water refill stations located on the first floor of SIUE buildings, where signs will be posted to promote the contest,” said Megan Arnett, one of the contest organizers and part of the SIUE Sociology of Sustainability Class, led by Frey Spurlock.
