SIUE to Host its First Water Conservation Fair March 4
Because every drop of water is precious, student organizations and faculty at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, along with other groups, will host a Water Conservation Fair on Wednesday, March 4.
The fair, which will kick off the #siueonedrop contest, will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Goshen Lounge at SIUE.
“The contest encourages students to find creative ways to take a ‘selfie’ at the SIUE water refill stations located on the first floor of SIUE buildings, where signs will be posted to promote the contest,” said Megan Arnett, one of the contest organizers and part of the SIUE Sociology of Sustainability Class led by Dr. Connie Frey Spurlock.
The fair will consist of numerous vendors and organizations that will showcase water conservation and be available to discuss opportunities for sustainable growth.
There will be giveaways from the Office of Sustainability, a photo booth to kick off the #siueonedrop selfie contest and opportunities for students to discover ways to incorporate water conservation and sustainable living practices into their lifestyles. Some of the vendors will include: Environmental Resource Training Center (ERTC), National Great Rivers Research Center, Natural Connections, SIUE Fitness Center, The Watershed and SIUE Rain Garden.
“We are committed to conserving precious resources, such as water, here at SIUE;” Arnett said, “one drop at a time.” “Water is essential for all dimensions of life. Our mission is to educate and inspire through excellent exhibits and programs that promote the sustainable use and conservation of water.”
