SIUE Student-Athletes Compile 17 Straight Semesters of Cumulative 3.0 GPA
SIUE student-athletes completed the 2014 fall semester with a 3.089 grade point average. Among the 253 SIUE student-athletes, 63.2 percent completed the term with a GPA of 3.0 or above, and 29.6 percent finished the fall semester as members of the Dean’s List with a GPA of 3.5 or more.
“Our student-athletes continue to make academic excellence a high priority,” SIUE Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt said. “I congratulate them for their academic accomplishments. We will continue to make graduation and their academic progress a high priority in this department.”
The women’s golf team finished with the highest team GPA for the fifth-consecutive semester with a 3.587. They were followed by women’s tennis (3.513), softball (3.38), men’s tennis (3.355), women’s cross country (3.302), men’s cross country (3.225), men’s golf (3.198), volleyball (3.182), women’s track and field (3.14), women’s soccer (3.124), men’s track and field (3.082), and men’s soccer (3.048).
Hewitt credited the strategies implemented since SIUE completed certification to NCAA Division I status.
“Our academic support staff ensures each student-athlete stays on track not only during the semester, but also as they progress toward their degree,” Hewitt added. “The study space provided for our student-athletes in the Vadalabene Center gives them the resources needed to further their educational goals.”
Hewitt said academic success begins with recruiting student-athletes who share SIUE’s vision.
“Our coaches continue to recruit student-athletes who are committed to academic and athletic success,” Hewitt continued. “Academic success is a reflection of the resources the University provides, the outstanding faculty and support of University leadership.”
