Illinois Veteran Grant (IVG)
Program Information
The Illinois Veteran Grant is a state authorized entitlement program that covers all tuition and mandatory fees for those attending a public university or community college in the state for a period equivalent to four years of full-time enrollment, including summer terms.
Application Process

- Please make sure you have your DD214 accessible as you will need it to apply.
- Applications can be submitted any time during the academic year for which assistance is being requested, and need to be submitted only once to establish eligibility. Fully completed applications must be received at ISAC prior to the last scheduled day of classes in the term for which the grant is requested.
Eligibility
- Must meet specific Illinois residency requirements (listed in full description).
- Must meet at least one of a list of general criteria in addition to residency (listed in full description).
- Must have received an honorable discharge for each period of federal active duty, and/or be honorably serving.
- Cannot be a member of the ROTC.
- Cannot be in default on any student loan, nor owe a refund on any state or federal grant.
Covered Costs
- Benefits cover tuition
- Mandatory fees, defined as a fee that an institution assesses to each full-time student for each term.
- Graduation fee: Veterans using this benefit will need to apply for graduation and then go to Student Financial Aid and complete the Graduation Application Fee waiver form. From there, Student Financial Aid will process (confirm eligibility) and submit to the Registrar to have the fee waived.
Campus Requirements/Steps Complete IVG application process.
- Wait for response (allow six to eight weeks).
- If you do not have your eligibility letter by the first payment due date, please provide your confirmation of application to the Office of Military and Veteran Resources.
- If you are living in on-campus housing, payment for housing is still required by the due date.
- Submit a copy of the letter to the Military and Veteran Resource Center (2nd floor MUC) on campus.
- If a semester of classes is skipped, you must notify the Financial Aid office to reinstate IVG benefits.
