Here are some of the best new features released by Zoom during early 2022.
Closed Captioning Enhancements
Live Transcription can now be requested by a participant. If the host forgets to manually enable live transcription at the beginning of the meeting, a participant can request for the host to enable it. To request live transcription during the meeting: click the Live Transcript button --> Request
Breakout Room Enhancements
Screen sharing, including audio, can now be broadcast and shared to all breakout rooms. Whatever content is being shared in the main room will also be shared in the breakout rooms when selecting the ‘Share to Breakout Rooms’ option.
Previously, breakout rooms had to be edited prior to the meeting. Now Breakout rooms can be created, renamed, and deleted after the meeting has started.
Dark Mode
The appearance and theme of your Zoom desktop app can be changed from light mode to dark mode. To change to dark mode: In the Zoom desktop app, click your profile picture —> click Settings —> General —> Theme — choose Dark Mode
Slide Control
This setting enables the person who is sharing a presentation to allow others to control the Powerpoint or Keynote slide. While screen sharing, click the Slide Control button on the control bar and assign slide control privileges to a participant. This feature only works if the slideshow is in fullscreen presentation mode.
Video in Waiting Room
Zoom now allows a video to be shown to participants in the waiting room. To customize your Zoom waiting room: Log into the Zoom web portal —> go to Settings —> In Meeting (Advanced) —> Waiting Room --> Customize Waiting Room —> select ‘A Video’
Focus Mode
Focus mode allows the host to enable a view where the participants are only able to see video and shared content from the host, co-hosts and spotlighted users. To enable focus mode during a meeting: click More —> Start Focus Mode. Focus mode can also be enabled while scheduling the meeting so that focus mode is enabled at the start of the meeting.
To utilize these features, make sure to update the Zoom desktop app to the latest software version. Instructions for updating the Zoom desktop app: https://kb.siue.edu/106099
