VLC: a simple yet powerful media player

There are a plethora of media players out there but I've always found VLC to be the best of the bunch. A free and open-source cross-platform multimedia player, VLC is free, fast, powerful, simple to use, ad-free, and most importantly can play nearly any media file.
From multimedia audio and video files to DVD's, CD's, streams, and devices, VLC supports almost all file formats without needing to download any additional codecs.
