Winter Session FAQ

How do students get books?
Books will be available through Textbook Service before Winter Session begins (by early December). If students are traveling over break, they should be sure to get all required books before leaving campus.
When will Blackboard courses be ready?Blackboard courses have already been created for winter courses. Two things to know: 1. Courses listed without an instructor in CougarNet (instructor "TBD") will not have an instructor in Blackboard. In order for an instructor to have access to a specific Blackboard course, they must be listed as the instructor of record in CougarNet.
When is the last day students can drop a class?
December 28 is the drop deadline for Winter Session. However, December 17 (the first day of Winter Session) is the deadline to drop a course with full reimbursement of tuition and fees. Students should contact servicecenter@siue.edu for help dropping a course.
What services are available to students during winter session?
Students have access to a variety of University resources during Winter Session including online tutoring (for some courses), electronic and physical library access, and around-the-clock technical support. Some campus departments will have limited hours and availability, so students should make arrangements for individual needs ahead of University closure from December 24 - January 1.
Is this shortened three-week term for everyone?
No. The intensive Winter Session format is not for everyone. For example, students who are struggling academically, who do not have reliable internet access over the break, or who have extensive commitments might consider enrolling in traditional spring courses rather than taking a 3-week winter course online. One way students can gauge their readiness for taking online classes is by taking this brief survey (note: this survey is gauging readiness for a regular 16-week online course; the workload is amplified in a Winter Session online course).
