Before Applying for an Assistantship Opening
- You must be admitted to a graduate program as a classified graduate student per Policy 4A3
- Undergraduate students are allowed to hold appointments only with permission of the Dean of the Graduate School. This permission may be granted only in exceptional circumstances such as to a qualified student in an approved combined baccalaureate and graduate program when they are within two academic terms (a maximum of 24 semester hours) of receiving a baccalaureate degree.
- International students applying for teaching assistantships must be proficient in English
Eligibility Requirements
- Maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average.
- Enrolled in at least 6 but no more than 12 credit hours per academic term unless authorized by the Dean of the Graduate School (Minimum 3, maximum 9 in Summer). Enrollment less than the minimum or greater than the maximum is only covered with an approved Underload/Overload Approval Form.
- UNIV 500 or courses taken for audit do not count towards the minimum course load requirement.
Responsibilities of Appointed Graduate Assistants
- Students may NOT begin working until after they sign their contract and complete the I-9 along with providing the required verification document(s).
- Students should NOT continue working after the ending date on their contract.
- Working outside of the dates of the contract will result in loss of payment to the student.
