Job Description/Responsibilities
Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville is currently seeking to fill the role of Associate Dean for Policy, Faculty Development, and Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This position oversees and coordinates the development and revision of policies in the College of Arts and Sciences, including the revision of College and departmental operating papers. The Associate Dean also oversees and coordinates faculty development activities in the College, serving as a resource for chairs and faculty on all phases of the faculty evaluation, review, promotion and tenure, and sabbatical processes. In this capacity, the Associate Dean will hold workshops for faculty, develop and revise workshop materials, work with relevant CAS committees, review dossiers, applications, and reports, and draft letters for the Dean's review. The Associate Dean also oversees support for faculty travel, serving as the liaison between the Dean's Office and the Graduate School, coordinating with administrative support personnel, reviewing requests, and allocating CAS funds when available. The Associate Dean coordinates and provides training for department chairs, develop materials for certain training activities, maintain and update the Chairs' Handbook, and oversees and coordinates mentoring activities for all College faculty. This position works with the Dean and the other Associate Dean in budgeting, faculty recruitment, and hiring, serving as hiring dean for faculty searches as assigned, reviewing recruitment documents, coordinating with departments throughout the search process negotiating with candidates, and communicating with the Provost's Office and Human Resources as needed. In coordination with the Dean, the Associate Dean oversees and coordinates anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the College. The chair the CAS committee on Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, work with faculty and staff to implement Committee recommendations, and serve as the liaison between the College and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Other related duties may be assigned as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned Doctorate or other terminal degree
- Candidates must be a tenured faculty member in a department in the college
- Candidates must have experience and competence in supporting anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Candidates must have the ability to work in the U.S. without immigration sponsorship from SIUE.
- Experience with policies and processes of the College of Arts and Sciences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Administrative experience comparable to department chair
