About Dr. Krim

Jessica S. Krim, Ed.D., is a Professor of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education, Health, and Human Behavior at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She joined SIUE in 2009 after obtaining her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Montana State University. Dr. Krim is a member of the Dismantling Racism through Education Advocacy and Mobilization (DREAM) Collective at SIUE. She teaches graduate courses that include Analysis of Instruction, Curriculum Models, and Science and Math Secondary Teaching Methods, and undergraduate courses that include Educational Psychology, Educational Assessment, and Methods for Secondary Teaching. She utilizes best practice methods, such as active learning and high-leverage experiences, to prepare students to effectively maximize their teaching abilities. She is a frequent presenter at professional meetings at the national level and is involved with various professional organizations. Dr. Krim has been appointed to serve as the Program Director for Secondary Education, and works regularly with faculty in various departments in the College of Arts and Sciences to align instruction and assessment for students seeking the Secondary Professional Educators License. Dr. Krim was the driving force behind the curriculum redesign of this program, adding 12 pedagogical credits towards the Professional Educator License (PEL 9-12), so that the Secondary Education Program Curriculum is one that is strong in both content and pedagogy. Additionally, she has served as Interim Assistant Dean for the School of Education Health and Human Behavior and the Chair for the Department of Teaching and Learning.

Dr. Krim is a diversity mentor and a graduate faculty member. She is available to speak with students about secondary education and pathways to advanced degrees in education.

Research Profile

Dr. Krim’s research centers around science education and critical reflection, especially as it pertains to equality of educational opportunity. She studies how providing high-leverage practices for preservice teachers can impact their knowledge, skills, and dispositions. She is currently conducting research in the cultural awareness of preservice teachers.

 Dr. Krim is the principal investigator of SIUE’s Robert Noyce Science Scholarship and Internship Program, which utilizes an enhanced curriculum that includes research, intensive teaching experiences, and outreach and service to build efficacy among pre-service science teachers as they prepare to teach and lead in areas of high need in the Southern Illinois area.
