Student Teaching
The final semester of teacher preparation is dominated by student teaching-- an intensive, full-time immersion in classroom practice. Each ELA secondary education teacher candidate works with at least one cooperating teacher and two supervisors from SIUE (one from the School of Education and one from the Department of English Language and Literature). Graduates affirm that student teaching is exhausting, but is also one of the most profoundly rewarding experiences one is ever likely to have!
For detailed information about the student teaching process in ELA, see the CT-ST (Cooperating Teacher - Student Teacher) Guidebook.
Student Teachers will also need the departmental planning forms for use before each supervisory visit:
- Lesson Planner Instructions (pdf)
- Lesson Planner, Blank (word)
- Standards, Outcomes, and Assessments (pdf)
