Professor Corey Stevens
What are you doing for self-care?
- I’m working on building more self-care into my daily routine, but it is a constant struggle to strike that balance. I’ve been working on incorporating more movement into my life–yoga, walking, dancing. I also have a strict no-work-on-Saturday policy, so Saturday is my day to binge watch TV and play video games. I also enjoy spending time with my dog and cats. I can always count on them to bring some humor into the situation.
How are you bringing sociology into your experience?
- I’m teaching a graduate level class on Medical Sociology, which is perfect during this time. There are few better examples of how illness impacts and is impacted by broader social structures like inequality, racism, politics and the economy than the COVID-19 pandemic. Sociology helps me process what is happening, and applying sociological thinking with my students really helps to make sense out of this nonsensical time.
