Chelsie McWhorter and Sarah Jackson presented at AAG in March 2023. Both Chelsie
and Sarah earned their master's from our program, and each are in doctoral programs
now - Chelsie is at UC-Santa Barbara and was recently admitted to candidacy while
Sarah is at U. of South Carolina and is also a PhD candidate, getting ready to defend
her dissertation soon.

2022 Maymester
Dr. Alan Black taught his storm chasing class this 2022 Maymester which culminated in a storm chase trip to Texas and back. The students had a great time on the road this past week! Lots of cool storms and great memories!

SIUE geography students
SIUE geography students Wade Filges, Claire Iott, Milo Phillips and Makenzi Keller along with BIO student Jack Aydt, and ENSC student Jesus Sanchez, Dr. Martinez and Dr. Locke are spending a couple weeks in El Salvador as part of the NSF GEOPaths program. We are interacting with the Universidad Gerardo Barrios showing students STEM activities, flying a drone, conducting field work and exploring the area.

Lewis and Clark State Historic Site
GEOG 335: Geography of North America students joined Dr. Hume on a field trip to the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site in Hartford, Illinois. This is where the Corps of Discovery spent the winter of 1803-1804 at Camp Dubois before their departure. Dr. McCarragher’s Soils Class
Dr. McCarragher’s Soils class spent some time taking soil samples and exploring physical soil properties along the Delyte W. Morris greenway. The last couple of weeks the students have been participating in hands-on learning activities in the course as part of their final project.

Washington Park Cemetery
Dr. Brown’s cartography course mapped gravestones at the historic African American Washington Park Cemetery in St. Louis. The class is working with ESRI to create a digital database of the landmark.
