Heidy Cuervo
Dr. Heidy Cuervo is an Associate Professor of Pedagogy and Spanish. She is the Director of the Foreign Language PK-12 Teacher Certification Program. She mentors and supervises student-teachers in many schools in the Southern Illinois region. She is a certified ACTFL OPI rater and APPLL rater. She is the advisor for the Sigma Delta Pi, the Hispanic Studies Honor Society.
Research focus in teacher education, second language acquisition, assessment, Spanish linguistics, instructional technology, and the development of cultural competence. She has served and presented her research studies at various conferences including the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL-Awarded Research Priority Grant), the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP- Downstate Illinois Treasurer), the Computer-Assited Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO), and the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ICTFL - Past Region Director). She has published articles in the International journal Revista Electrónica del Lenguaje and the CSCTFL Journal.
