Upgrading Your Windows NT 4.0 Operating System
to Service Pack 3

To install and use the new electronic forms software FormFlow Filler 99 with a Windows NT operating system; it may be necessary to upgrade your Windows NT Operating System to the level of Service Pack 3. To do this requires the installation of software referred to as Service Pack 3. This upgrade is the first of two installs that must be made to each NT machine in order for it to use the new forms software and allow the user to conduct business using electronic forms. The second install is the Windows NT IE4.0/FormFlow Filler Installation Package. Depending on your PC's resources (speed and memory) this installation process may take from a few minutes to up to an hour to complete.

In order to install the Service Pack 3 and the forms software you must:

  1. Logon as the Administrator;
  2. Apply NT Service Pack 3 unless your machine already has Service Pack 3 or 4 or 5 already installed and;
  3. Return to the previous page (Internet Explorer 4.0 and FormFlow 99 Filler Installation Instructions for Windows NT) and download and execute the NT IE 4.0/FormFlow Filler Installation Package.

These instructions apply to installing Service Pack 3 for NT on your computer.

Service Pack 3 must be installed first before you can install the Windows NT IE4.0/FormFlow Filler Installation Package.

To determine what NT service pack is installed on your machine you must boot the machine. The first blue screen that appears during the boot process will display in white letters at the top of the screen a message similar to the following :

"Microsoft Windows NT ( TM) Version 4 (Build 1381: (Service Pack 3) 1 system processor {64 megabytes of memory}))

This message may vary depending upon your particular machine. The important parts of the message are the version of NT and the Service Pack

If you already have Service Pack 3 or higher on your machine do not execute this procedure.

Instead go back to the previous page(FormFlow 99 Filler Installation Pagage and Instructions) and execute the Windows NT IE4.0/FormFlow Filler Installation Package under Option 3.

Step 1: Selecting the file to download

Under Option 3 click on Service Pack 3 -(only for those clients whose machines have Service Pack 1 or 2. If you have Service Pack 3 or higher installed on your machine go directly to installing Windows NT IE4/FormFLow 99 Filler Installation Package).

Step 2: Saving the file to your desktop

When the Save As dialog box appears use the scroll arrow on the right side of the dialog box. SCROLL UP and locate the folder called Desktop. (There are 2 or more folders called Desktop. One for you personal logon id and one for the Administrator id. The correct one is at the very top of the list in the dialog box.) Click on the Save button. This sends the file (nt4sp3_i) to the Administrator's Desktop.

Step 3: Minimize or close Netscape/Begin Installation

Close Netscape by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner of your Netscape Window. Your Desktop will reappear. Double Click on the icon on your Desktop that contains the name of the file (nt4sp3_i).

Step 4: Starting the Service Pack Installation

This is the opening screen of the Service Pack 3 installation. Click On Next

Step 5: Accepting the License Agreement

This is another screen that requires you to click on YES indicating you accept the licensing agreement. Click on YES

Step 6: Selecting the type of installation

Please click on NEXT

Step 7: Selecting the uninstall directory option

This screen is very important since it creates an uninstall directory. Please click on Next.

Step 7A: Optional Window - Previous Uninstall directory

Depending upon your system configuration you may or may not get this window. If you do click YES

Step 8: Completing the system inspection

This screen is informational and informs you that the upgrade is proceeding. Click Finish.

Please note that you may get a window message that in essence says that your have a newer version of a file on your system, do you want to overwrite the file? Please click Yes.

Step 9: The final update

This window completes the installation of Service Pack 3. Click on OK. Your machine will now reboot and you must sign back on as the Administrator to complete the installation of Internet Explorer and FormFlow 99 Filler. This procedure may take a few minutes.

Step 10: Cleaning up your system

Right click on the icon with the file name(nt4sp3_i). Click on Delete.

Step 11: Deleting the installation file

 

Click on YES. Now you may proceed to install the Windows NT IE4.0/FormFlow Filler Installation Package under Option 3.
