Logic
The
study of arguments: It makes explicit the rules we follow implicitly when we
are reasoning effectively.
Formal Logic
The study of the structure (as opposed to the
content) of arguments: It constructs a formal language to reveal levels of
logical structure of ordinary language.
Deductive Logic
The study of those argument structures whose
premises are supposed to provide conclusive reasons for their conclusions: It
develops methods for testing validity.
