The commencement
ceremony of June 15, 1961 - the second on the new campus - was staged near
the house on the recently-acquired Freund property. The university eventually
had reached a settlement to pay $155,000 for this essential 132-acre parcel
of land which would become the core academic area of the new school. The
inflatable plastic dome from the EPEC seminar was placed nearby and used
to house an exhibit of prize-winning student art and also architectural
drawings of the proposed campus and buildings. For the first time, the
majority of the 145 graduates at this commencement ceremony had completed
all of their coursework at the Metro-East area residence centers.
