Project Focus: Configuration of SAP

Description: The purpose of this project was to configure an SAP installation tailored to the business needs of the fictional corporation that was detailed in the project. The configuration included the supply chain and production needs of this fictional company and required a proper setup and order of the needed materials and equipment.

Challenges: SAP is a notoriously stringent and difficult to master software. It is very strict in the rules and the order in which data needs to be input into the system, how the system is setup, and the configuration. A mistake cannot simply be deleted; this is put in to keep a record of all the changes. This is a feature that keeps people from being able to make undocumented changes which could result in issues for the company which can include theft or possible accounting issues.

Reflections: SAP is an incredible and unforgiving software. The Germans really know how to create a strict set of rules. Having to configure an application with this level of strictness a chore, but was a great learning experience in dealing with software that may be similar in tolerances.
