Description: Tasked with the creation of an application to streamline a Lessons System for a country club. There systems prior was a paper and filing method that was not streamlined and was limiting the data that could be pulled in order to evaluate the needs and of the country club. There was also a discount system that was added in for the members that donated goods to local charities or partook in different events and activities with the country club.
Challenges: To the actual project the challenges were mostly in the case of budgeting and training required. Having to take someone from paper to a computerized system is a task. It had to be done and since the person had intimate knowledge of the old system it was imperative to have her heralded into the new system even if that meant taking a bit more time to accustom them to it.
To the project in terms of the class setting, it was one of my many instances of being with a partner who just did not want to work. That person dropped the course after being carried throughout the project. I worked specifically with this individual to get them to participate and include them as much as possible. In the end though this individual actually was a detriment to the overall project and the group saw the result. Although the professor was made aware of the issue very early on and that was taken into consideration. This was an extra lesson that was welcomed in the end, no matter how frustrating it was initially. Sometimes there are those who truly just do not have what it takes or do not care. They need to be dealt with quickly in a group situation as they can bring the entire project down and cause issues throughout. Great added lesson from my viewpoint.
Reflections: This was my first time diving into a structured project management experience. There were many lessons to learn and obstacles to overcome. I gained a great deal from this experience.
