Contributions of biology to understanding ourselves and our world.  Development, nature and human implications of cell theory, heredity, the modern synthetic theory of evolution, population dynamics, ecology and environmental problems. 

Typically taught each fall and spring by various professors 

 
Biol 121 - Plant Systems 
4.0 hrs 
Cellular organization, metabolism, genetics, reproduction, development, photosynthesis, physiology and evolution of plants 

3 hours lecture, 1 laboratory per week 

Taught in the Spring and Fall

Prerequisites Bio 120 and concurrent enrollment in Chem 121b and 125b 

Biol 472 - Plant Physiology 
4.0 hrs 
Topics include photosynthesis, mineral nutrition, water as related to plants, growth and movement of plants 

2 parts lecture and 2 parts laboratory per week

Prerequisites Bio 120, 121 

Biol 461/561 - Plants and the Environment  
3.0 hrs 
Environmental effects on plant growth, reproduction and distribution.  Adaptive responses to environmental stresses examined and measured
