Information:
Hi! I'm
Annis H. Hopkins, Ph.D.
Here's the short
version of my life. I grew up on a farm in
southern Illinois. After
a pretty typical farm-girl, tomboy childhood, I earned the B.A. in music
from Greenville College, in Greenville,
IL, the Master's in the Teaching of English from the University
of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and the Doctor of Philosophy Degree
in Rhetoric and Composition from Arizona State
University as well as a Certificate of Concentration in Women's Studies.
Over a 30 year teaching
career, I've taught at the middle school, high school, community college,
and university levels. I taught Women's Studies
at ASU the longest, from 1986 to 1999; I was also the Program's Academic
Advisor and Web Weaver--I created and maintained the Program's Web Site.
In 1999-2000, I
was a faculty fellow in the English Department at Rio Salado
College in Tempe, Arizona, where I taught, mentored adjunct faculty,
served as co-coordinator for writing and critical thinking competencies,
and did curriculum/course development. I
have some web goodies "up" there as well (you can visit our
writing assistance site).I also
teach some English courses there during the summer via the Internet.
My other web adventures
include some volunteer work for the The
First United Methodist Church of Greenville, and for the Bond
County Senior Center. Since May of 2000, I live in Illinois,
where I am a care-giver, along with my siblings, for my mother. I
have a variety of jobs for the time being, including teaching English part-time
for RioSaladoCollege
in the summer and full-time at Southern
Illinois University Edwardsville.
In my leisure time,
I enjoy spending time in Arizona
with my daughter and five grandchildren, and reading, hiking, biking, making
photographs, and writing. I also love to
travel to beautiful places; in June 1999, I spent a week on Kauai and I
will return to the Grand Canyon whenever I can. In July 2002, I explored
South Dakota and Wyoming, with stops in Badlands National Park, Mt. Rushmore,
Custer State Park, Yellowstone National Park, and other places. You
can see a few of my pictures here.
June 2003 took me to Niagara Falls and Acadia National Park, and in 2005
I visited Great Smokey Mountains National Park and parts of Florida, including Dry
TortugasNational
Park.
Then in the summer of 2007, I explored almost all the National Parks in
Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. My favorite place was Canyon
de Chelly.
