Students Learning from Students is an Advantage of SIUE’s Partnership with South Korea’s Tongmyong University
During the three-day visit by students and faculty of Tongmyong University’s (TU) School of Engineering in Busan, South Korea, studies and culture were seen through dual lenses.
The exchange afforded SIUE and TU to benefit from learning about the direction and focus of engineering studies at both schools, according to Hyunmin Im, one of several TU students who made engineering presentations at SIUE.
The TU contingent visited SIUE from Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 4-6. A partnership between the institutions began when former SIUE Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe signed a memorandum of understanding on June 11, 2013 with TU. In 2014, a formal agreement was made to offer a 2+2 dual diploma program between TU and the SIUE School of Engineering.
“It is wonderful that students are doing numerical analysis of 3D modeling of their work,” said Im. “It is also a great advantage of SIUE that it has a lab space in each field, which maximizes learning capabilities.”
Besides learning about the benefits of both schools, Im said, it’s good for students at both schools “to learn about a different educational culture.”
