SIUE School of Engineering’s Zhou Named ASCE’s EWRI Fellow
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering’s (SOE) Jianpeng “Jim” Zhou, PhD, PE, BCEE, has been awarded fellow grade of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI), one of the largest institutes of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Zhou is a professor in the SOE’s Department of Civil Engineering.
The distinguished designation recognizes Zhou’s significant professional accomplishments in the field of environmental engineering and water resources, and for his contributions to education, mentoring, service and leadership.
“As a Fellow, I am joining a group of the most outstanding members of the EWRI of ASCE,” said Zhou. “I am honored with this great recognition coming from my peers in the field of environmental and water resources.
“Engineering work in the environmental and water resources is one of the most essential aspects of society. Seeing the clear linkage of my work in water, wastewater and stormwater management, to people’s daily lives, and in meeting the needs of our community, keep me passionate about what I do.”
The EWRI, comprising approximately 26,000 members, is the specialty technical institute of the ASCE, which boasts approximately 150,000 members. Zhou’s involvement in the professional organization advances his mission as a scholar and educator.
“Active involvement in the EWRI allows me to stay current with the latest developments in my field, expand my research and scholarly activities, and continue to learn about best practices in engineering education to enhance my teaching and student learning,” Zhou said.
“I encourage SIUE School of Engineering students to get involved in professional organizations, where we engage in lifelong learning and develop in-depth understanding and appreciation for the value of our profession to society.”
The 2017 EWRI Fellows will be recognized at the 2017 World Environmental and Water Resources Congress on Monday, May 22 in Sacramento, Calif.
