SIUE School of Engineering Receives ABET Reaccreditation
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering’s programs have received continued accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) through as far as 2021.
The rigorous process requires years of data collection and continuous improvement based on self-assessment. The School and each program do a comprehensive self-study, which is followed by a campus visit from a highly trained team of experts.
“ABET accreditation for the SIUE School of Engineering programs underscores the School’s excellence in all areas of review and its commitment to student learning and success,” said Parviz Ansari, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. “This accreditation reaffirms SIUE’s commitment to academic excellence through the dedicated work of its faculty and staff.”
ABET is a not-for-profit, non-governmental accrediting agency for programs in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology, and is recognized as an accreditor by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. ABET accreditation provides assurance that a university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepares graduates.
“This reaccreditation demonstrates highly deserved confidence in the quality of the SIUE School of Engineering’s programs,” said Stephen Hansen, SIUE interim chancellor. “Graduates of our engineering programs are extremely prepared and actively recruited by leading organizations within the field.”
“The reaffirmation of the SIUE School of Engineering accreditation is testimony to the continuing hard work of our faculty, staff and students,” said Hasan Sevim, dean of the School. “We have become the center of engineering excellence in the region, and we are proud of the quality education that we provide to our students.”
ABET accreditation sets the global standard for programs in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. ABET accreditation is voluntary and more than 3,400 programs at nearly 700 colleges and universities in 28 countries have received ABET accreditation.
