Posted March 6, 2025
SIUE students won 1st place at the Geo-Prediction competition at GeoFrontiers 2025. As recognition for this accomplishment, SIUE will host the coveted Mohr-Coulomb Trophy for the next year. Pictured below from left to right are Aspy Bronoski Mbani Illo (Pursuing his MSCE), Dr. Saad Ullah (Civil Engineering Faculty), and Brooke Rogers (Pursuing her BSCE).
The Geo-Prediction competition is one of the most challenging parts of overall Geo-Challenge. In this competition, students were provided with a real-life challenge to investigate the flow of water and changes in elevation head in the foundation of a dam with complex soil stratigraphy due to transient boundary conditions. This year's top 10 teams included California Polytechnical Institute (nd place), Texas A&M (3rd place), NJIT, Michigan State and University of North Carolina Charlotte. The Geotechnical Frontiers conference was held in Louisville, KY, in March 2025. To get involved with the SIUE Geo-Institute, see https://getinvolved.siue.edu/organization/gi.
