Seven SIUE Civil Engineering Faculty, Students, Alumni, and IPAC Members Recognized at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) St. Louis 2024 Annual Awards Dinner

SIUE Civil Engineering had multiple recognitions of their faculty, students, alumni and advisory board members at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) St. Louis 2024 Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Two SIUE students were recognized with scholarships. Andrew Holba (below, left), president of the SIUE ASCE Student Chapter was recognized with a section undergraduate scholarship. In addition, Roohollah (Roohi) Farzalizadeh (below, right), a doctoral student in the SIUE/SIUC Cooperative Program (Civil Engineering), was recognized with a GeoConfluence Research Scholarship.
Two SIUE alumni received awards from the St. Louis Section of ASCE for their work in the profession. Jordan Pettibone, P.E. (BSCE, 2007; below, left) was honored with the Professional Recognition Award. He serves as the practitioner advisor for the SIUE ASCE chapter and works at Horner and Shifrin. Alicia Padilla (BSCE, 2018 and MSCE 2023; below, right) was honored with the Young Engineer Award. She has been active in ASCE since her time as an undergraduate.
Two SIUE faculty were recognized for their outstanding work with students. Dr. Alaaeldin (Alaa) Elsisi, P.E. (below, left), was named the Outstanding Faculty Advisor for ASCE Region 7. He serves as an Assistant Professor and advises the SIUE ASCE student chapter. Dr. Abdolreza (Reza) Osouli (below, right), P.E., was named the Outstanding Faculty Advisor for the St. Louis Section. He is a Civil Engineering Professor who currently advises more than 16 geotechnical engineering graduate students (from 26) and was the former advisor of the ASCE student chapter of the Geo-Institute (Dr. Saad Ullah is the current advisor).
The Civil Engineering Department is guided by an advisory board named the Industrial and Professional Advisory Council (IPAC). CE IPAC member Michael Buechter, P.E., was recognized with the ASCE Region 7 Professional Progress Award for his legacy of work in the St. Louis region.
