The Geosynthetic Institute (GSI) has awarded two $5,000 Fellowship Grants to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering (SOE) students. Mr. Hamid Rostami is a student in SIUE’s Cooperative Program in Engineering Science, working under the guidance of Abdolreza Osouli, PhD, in the Department of Civil Engineering. His fellowship will support research titled, “Evaluation of Geosynthetic Reinforcement Techniques for Buried Petroleum Pipelines Subjected to Earthquake Faulting.”
Mr. Mostafa Ebrahimi is a Master’s student in the Civil Engineering Department, also supervised by Dr. Osouli. His fellowship will support research titled, “Use of Geoelectrical Technique for Defect Detection of GCLs in the Landfill Areas”. Dr. Osouli noted that, “These students are conducting state-of-the-art research and I am glad that their efforts are recognized valuable by experts in the field and funding their work.”
The GSI is a consortium of 71 organizations worldwide involved with geosynthetics. All types of polymeric geosynthetic materials are involved. The organizations include federal and state governmental agencies, facility owners, designers, consultants, quality control and quality assurance organizations, testing laboratories, resin and additive suppliers, manufacturers, manufacturer's representatives and installation contractors.
