Ways of Return: Created and Performed by Joy Davis
Ways of Return is a devised dance theater study on becoming a mother and returning to the world postpartum. The piece is supported by the ancient Sumerian myth of Inanna’s descent to the underworld as an analogy for the process of childbirth and matrescence. Created by Joy Davis | joyproject for North Carolina Choreographers Residency Project, premier May 19, 2024 with an ensemble of 7 dancers. For this version, Joy will attempt to perform all scenes as a solo.
Gay Aesthetics: Parts I-IV (and maybe part V if I’m feeling brave) (Work in Progress) Created and Performed by Alexander Davis
Based on a true story, Gay Aesthetics is a new work in progress dance theater solo created and performed by Alexander Davis | ADD, commissioned by The Boston Center for the Arts 2025 DanceLab Residency. Utilizing source materials such as Hal Fischer’s 1970’s research on Gay Semiotics, hanky codes, vintage physique photography this work is part lecture, part demonstration, and part unearned and over dramatic existential crisis.
