Applied Communication Studies

ADMISSION AND TRANSFER

Admission

To be admitted as a major to the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts program within the Department of Applied Communication Studies, students must:

  • Complete ACS 101 Public Speaking (or equivalent) with a grade of C or better
  • Complete ACS 103 Interpersonal Communication Skills (or equivalent) with a grade of C or better
  • Attain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

To be accepted as a minor in Applied Communication Studies a student must attain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

Transfer

Students who choose to take one or more classes at another institution and apply that credit to their SIUE degree should obtain prior approval for the course from the appropriate academic advisor to make sure the course is acceptable for program credit.

For majors of the Department of Applied Communication Studies, a maximum of 18 semester hours of transferred relevant specialized coursework could be applied towards the 36 hour program.

For minors of the Department of Applied Communication Studies, a maximum of 9 semester hours of transferred relevant specialized courses work could be applied towards the 18 hour program.
