February 8, 2022 - Danielle Lee, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences explains her work in the field exploring critters in "little urban green pockets" and outreach to engage communities with un-used or vacant spaces, particularly in Black neighborhoods. Dr. Lee shares her experiences working with the African pouched rats in Tanzania. These amazing rodents can be trained to sniff out land mines, but watch out they bite! Here in the states, Dr. Lee hopes to inspire young African Americans to pursue science and stresses the importance of how urban ecology can strengthen the human dimension and ethical approach in science.
