Admission Requirements
Direct Admission for High School Students
First-time freshman students that meet ONE of the following criteria will be automatically admitted to SIUE and eligible for Direct Entry to the Early Childhood Education major in the Department of Teaching and Learning which is housed in the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior.
- Cumulative 2.6 high school GPA (4.0 scale)
- Cumulative 2.0 high school GPA (4.0 scale) AND 990 SAT ERW +M OR 19 ACT
- Rank in top 10% High School Graduating Class
Transfer
Transfer students who have attempted at least 30 semester hours in courses at accredited institutions will be automatically admitted to SIUE and eligible for Direct Entry to the Early Childhood Education major in the Department of Teaching and Learning which is housed in the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, provided they have earned a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (4.0 scale) in coursework at the previous accredited school(s) attended.
Transfer students who have attempted fewer than 30 semester hours in courses at accredited institutions must meet transfer admission criteria AND first-time freshman criteria to be automatically admitted to SIUE and eligible for Direct Entry to the Early Childhood Education major in the Department of Teaching and Learning which is housed in the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior.
Transfer credit for courses will be evaluated by the Registrar. Transfer students should contact an advisor in the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior Student Services (SEHHB-advising@siue.edu) as early as possible to discuss transfer procedures.
Retention
In order to be retained in the teacher education cohort in early childhood education, it is necessary to have:
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at all institutions and be in good academic standing at SIUE
- Completion of 42 semester hours or more of college-level coursework
- All foundations courses ( ENG 101, 102, ACS 101 or ACS 103, RA 101 and QR 101) must be completed with a “C” or higher
- Completion of PSYC 201 Child Psychology with a grade of "C" or Higher
- Completion of 42 semester hours or more of college-level coursework
