The UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM GUIDE AND SYMPOSIUM FIELD TRIP


Goal:  To help high school students to become environmentally literate citizens who are empowered to action to resolve problems on the Upper Mississippi River.

Abstract

To Teachers: As a culminating activity of your classroom investigation of the Mississippi River, you may be interested in attending a UMR High School Symposium.

A minimum of 3 of these 5 powerpoints must be utlized in your course to be able to qualify to attend the UMRS High School Symposium.

1)  Background, History, Nature and Geology of the River.
2)  The Environmental Movement.
3)   USACE Transition Navigation to Environmentalism.
4)   The Environmental Problems within the UMR
5)   River Restoration Methods

Other materials are available such as background knowledge, activities, images relevant to the content, a glossary and river research.
