Four SIUE Softball Cougars Earn OVC Honors
Four SIUE softball players were honored by the Ohio Valley Conference Tuesday on the eve of the league's conference championship.
Paige Rocha (Platte City, Missouri) was selected as the co-OVC Player of the Year as well as first team All-OVC. Jenna Herron was named first team All-OVC as an outfielder. Anna Henderson and Emma Henderson both were selected to the OVC All-Newcomer team.
Rocha, a left-handed hitting shortstop, set the SIUE record for hits in a season during the Division I era with 76. She also holds the longest hitting streak in Division I this season at 29 games. Rocha is second nationally with 22 doubles and enters the postseason with a .411 batting average.
Herron, the Cougars' left fielder, is second on the squad in batting average (.327), hits (52) and doubles (13). She also is among the nation's leaders in sacrifice bunts (10).
Anna Henderson started 47 games and moved into the role as the team's starting catcher. She is batting .322 with 18 runs batted in.
Emma Henderson has spent time in the circle but solidified her spot in the starting lineup at first base. She is batting .298 with three home runs and 17 runs batted in.
SIUE softball opens the OVC Championships Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. against UT Martin.
