University Housing Recognizes Residents on Dean’s List
On February 27, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s University Housing hosted a reception honoring University Housing residents who made the fall 2023 Dean’s List. More than 100 recipients and their families had the honor to attend this year’s reception.
Campus administrators, faculty members, and housing staff members were in attendance to share their support of the academic achievements of each student. The ceremony included remarks from Mallory Sidarous, Director of Housing, and Miriam Roccia, Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Roccia emphasized, “This is a big achievement! Earning a 3.5 GPA is no easy task. You’ve written papers, studied hard, and probably skipped a few events or life moments you would have rather been at instead of studying. You made your academic success a priority.”
In fall 2023, 762 University Housing residents made the Dean’s List. To make the Dean’s List, students must have a 3.5 of higher GPA. Three hundred thirty-three of those students had a 4.0 GPA in fall 2023. When asked what this event meant to her, Nia Roy, a current first year resident, said, “This event acknowledges everyone who puts in the hard-work no matter the circumstances. From the cookies to the speech, this Dean’s List ceremony is awesome.”
In addition to the speakers, light refreshments, a lapel pin, and a photobooth were available for students and families. Yuki Ishiyama, a current first year resident, stated, “It made me feel good about myself and academic accomplishment. I also like the food!”
Congratulations to all University Housing residents on these fall 2023 academic accomplishments!
